Organizing Help for Homes and Workplaces in the Oulu Area

Cleaning is easier and more efficient when things have their own places and the surfaces to be cleaned are easily accessible. Sometimes, before cleaning, a customer may need help organizing and reducing belongings or planning storage solutions.

That is why we wanted to learn more about the work of a professional organizer. We asked professional organizer Anni Nortala to explain in her own words what professional organizing means and in what situations it can be helpful.

Professional organizing

As an organizing consultant, I provide professional organizing help. I help the customer clarify everyday life, the home and workspaces. Together with the customer, I create a functional and stress-free environment where belongings and digital materials find their place and everyday life runs more smoothly.

I serve private and business customers, for example with moving, making the organization of an office or home more practical, organizing papers and electronic files, and emptying estates.

In work done together with social services, I help the customer organize their own home while taking the customer's needs into account. I have worked at Kainuun Omaishoitajat ja Läheiset ry and in local associations of the Finnish Federation of the Visually Impaired. I have learned to take into account the special needs of different people in everyday environments.

How does the service work?

The service works so that the customer contacts me either by phone at 0453212205 or by email at anni@anor.fi. I arrange an assessment visit with the customer to look at what needs help.

During the assessment visit, I listen to the customer's problems and wishes and we get to know each other. After that, we start solving the situation together.

An organizing visit lasts a maximum of four hours at a time. It is not worth taking more time for one visit so that the project feels pleasant and manageable. We can always agree on the time of the next visit if the matter is not finished.

The recommended price of the Finnish Professional Organizers is €60 per hour. A household tax deduction can be received for this service from me.

Professional organizing help to clarify workspaces

For one cleaning company, I went to organize a cupboard to create more space. The company had towels, pillowcases, duvet covers and other bed linen simply thrown into the cupboard in a hurry, folded in each employee's own style, wherever there happened to be room at the time.

When I went through the cupboard, I organized the towels and bed linen onto their own shelves and into their own piles and folded all the items in the piles in the same way. This made the cupboard more spacious, and two different piles could fit on one shelf instead of one bundle of bed linen. Now everyone could see which pile had, for example, towels and which had pillowcases.

In one company, the work clothing storage was messy. After clarifying the clothing storage, employees knew where the clean and dirty work clothes were, where clothes of a suitable size for themselves were, and where they could take undershirts to wear under work clothes.

Broken work clothes were also found in the clothing storage, which after repair were usable again.

At workplaces, the customer tells me what and how they want things to be done. If the customer is busy, they can leave me to work on the matter by myself and return every now and then to see what the situation is. In order for the organization to be good, the customer places the items themselves in the places they want.

Professional organizing help to clarify the home

With private customers, the work is done completely together. The customer organizes their own belongings and I am there as an extra pair of hands when needed and to point out different things.

One customer was frustrated that there were really a lot of belongings and they did not fit anywhere. There were no places for the belongings where they could be put sensibly. The customer hoped that the belongings could be put in their places so that it would be easy to maintain the organization.

At first, the customer was nervous about what I was going to do and how it would happen. When results started to show, the customer became excited about it and began to believe that this amount of belongings could still be managed.

The customer was happy several times when they found something that had been lost. Working together felt natural and time went quickly.

The customer said, “A big recommendation for Anni's help. I was really skeptical about how a professional organizer could possibly be useful to me, but Anni was an incredibly big help!”

I have also gained a long-term customer. We put the home in order one room at a time.

They have said, “I really like comfort. I already feel stressed when I know there is a lot to clean and organize, and because of that I do not want to get started with organizing. Organizing help is good because someone is there encouraging you so that the organizing gets started and moves forward. In addition, you get advice on how to start, how to continue and where the belongings can be put. On the other hand, you can do it on your own terms. Organizing help is cooperation.

A professional organizer helps make the home a more comfortable and nicer place to live. It is much nicer to live at home when you know what things are in the cupboards and there is nothing unused or expired hiding in them. When things are organized, you know quite well what can be found at the bottom of a drawer.”

The benefits of professional organizing and cleaning

Once a space has been organized, you know where each item belongs. This makes maintaining the organization easier.

When you know where an item belongs, you instinctively start looking for it in a certain place.

When things are in their own places, they are not in the way of cleaning. Then cleaning goes much faster because things do not need to be constantly lifted and moved.
